If a piece is a toupe', and a two piece is a bikini, and a three piece is a suit...

July 5th
On this day in 1946 the two piece bathing suit known as the bikini is introduced at a fashion show in Paris. Named after the atoll in the Pacific that had nuclear tests done near it, it failed to catch on until the 1960's when girls became less modest. Bikini wax came a little later, probably in the 80's, since hair was still "in" before that.

On this day in 1996 Dolly the sheep was cloned in Scotland, becoming the first mammal to be cloned. This caused quite a stir amongst religious groups who feared scientists were playing god. It's only a matter of time until man clones man, especially after the human genome project. But why, I ask, did scientist in Scotland have to clone a sheep? Couldn't they have been a little less predictable. Maybe clone a koala or something?

On this day in 1954 Elvis Presley had his first recording session ever, recording "That's all right (mama)". It became a regional hit overnight and launched a career that has inspired much of American music today. Elvis liked fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches with bacon, so he'd of supported the cloning of a pig, I'm not sure if he liked sheep.

On this day in 1880 George Bernard Shaw quit his day job in order to write. The rest is history.
