Who you gonna call?

June 8th
On this day in 1949 the FBI released a list known as the "Hollywood Ten" that accused the directors, actors and actresses on the list of being communists. The backlash that followed had them blacklisted, meaning they couldn't appear in feature films again, thus ending their careers. Hollywood has always been run by people more associated with the left, so accusations of communist activities probably weren't far from the truth, but these accusations and later convictions ended careers.
On this day in 1984 the movie Ghostbusters is released. Not sure about anyone else, but this movie was huge for me when I was a kid. I loved everything about it. I still love watching it every now and again. It had a budget of $30 million, which was quite large for a comedy at the time, used mostly for special effects, it paid off when it became the summer's #1 movie for the year.

On this day in 1969 Brian Jones left the Rolling Stones. He was the founding member of the band who brought everything together in 1962 and came up with the name. The split was a lot darker than first stated. Jones was heavy into drugs and the rest of the band couldn't deal with Jones' inconsistencies. Jones would be found dead in his swimming pool less than a month later.

  1. I love Egon's reply about him wanting to drill a hole in his head. "It would've worked if you hadn't stopped me."
